At the Compactor

At our apartment's compactor, I see some homeless kittens since a few months ago. Always different ones, the three kittens were spotted once, but usually these two, Meow and Gray.

I started to bring them our cat's leftovers at night, saying, "Hey, Meow, are you hungry? Here, you can eat this", so she (I think) thinks that her name is Meow. Sometimes I don't see them there, and I call "Meow?! Where are you, Meow?" and she come running. She got used to me and come close to me at my arm length, but not any closer. Gray, on the other hand, is the timid one, he comes, but stay far watching me, and wait until I leave to start eating.

Funny thing is, I go there in my car in the dark, and they absolutely recognize my car from the distance, come out from the bushes and wait for me to stop the car. Like, "Hey, that's her Toyota, let's go!" How come?????

And this Blue Jay was sleeping in the tree, my daughter happened to spot him last night. He didn't wake up with my camera's flash, our voices and anything!

うちのアパートの「ゴミ圧縮機」のところに、要するに圧縮するまではゴミ捨て場ですが、ホームレスのちびネコが何匹かいます。一度に３匹まで見たことがありますが、この頃はたいていこの２匹、ミャウとグレーだけ。夜に、うちのネコの残した分を持っていってやるようになり、行く度に「ヘイ、ミャウ」と話しかけていたので、彼女（だと思います）は自分の名前をミャウだと思うようになったようです。行ってもいないときに、ミャウ！と呼ぶと走ってきます。段々近づいてくるようんなり、今では私の腕の長さまで、見ている前で食べるようになりましたが、それ以上手を近づけると逃げてしまいます。一方グレーの方は、用心深くて、そばには寄ってこないし、私が立ち去るのをまって食べ始めます。
それでも段々、距離が短くなってきてます。

面白いのは、夜なので車で行きますが、私の車だってのが遠くからわかるようなのです。ササッと出てきて待っています。「あ～あの人のカローラだ！行こうよ！」てな感じで・・・・。不思議。

夕べは、あそこの木の中で、ブルージェイが眠っているのを娘が偶然見つけました。カメラのフラッシュにも、私たちの声にも、全然邪魔されずに昏睡してたようですが・・・・。

Looks bigger than the Ocean, doesn't it?　Locally refered to as The Lake or The Big O....is the second largest fresh-water lake in the USA after Lake Michigan....our water source...

Autumn Sky, Autumn Ground

秋の空、秋の地面。このところ、風が強く、また前のような「風に舞う枯れ葉」を撮りたいと思ってパークに行ったのだけど、まだ風に舞うほどの枯れ葉が地面にたまっていませんでした。

天体としての月

日本の友達がE メールで「月の写真はどうやって撮るの」と言って来ました。彼女のだんな様は写真家なのになぜわざわざ海を越えての質問？私に写真専門家の夫がいたら、便利だから絶対いっぱい質問攻めにしちゃうけど。

どうやら彼女、天体写真的「月」を撮りたいらしいのです。目で見た満月が、カメラで撮ったら真っ白で、ガッカリしたようなのです。

去年の中秋の名月あたりに、私も試してみたことがありますが、ブレがひどくて、満足のいく月が撮れませんでした。最近撮った月は、「天体写真的」写真じゃなくて、水に映った、とか、木の陰に、とかの「情緒的」？写真ばかりです。彼女に刺激されて、それと、一応、こうして撮ったらいいんじゃない、というメールを送ったので、それでよかったかどうか試すために、ゆうべやってみました。

小さいほうは３００ミリ（と思ったら２８０ミリでした）で撮ったそのままの大きさ、大きいほうはフォトショップでカットして、ちょっとシャープにしたもの。満月を一日過ぎています。

シャッタースピード１/１０００秒、F5.6、ISO 100　三脚ははじめ使ってましたが、却ってグラグラするので（なんちゅう三脚だ・・・）はずしてしまいました。

今年はうまくいったぞ！！

A photo of the Moon, Moon as a Planet.....let specialists take that kind of photos, I have only 300mm lens....I thought. The photos of the Moon I recently took were kind of...artistic sort of Moon? the Moon reflection in the water, the Moon behind the tree....etc

But one of my friends in Japan sent a Email and asked me how to take pictures of the Moon, and I answered some suggestions, even I couldn't handle that kind of photos last year.

So, I had to try what I told her, and I had to try one this year....and I did last night.

ISO100, SS1/1000, F5.6, focal length 280mm (I thought I was using full 300mm!!) this one was without a tripod. The big one was cropped and sharpened with PSE. The full moon plus one day....!

I made it this year!!

Halloween Night

Two days too early for the Full Moon, but it's already been one Month, one circle, since I was chasing the October Full Moon.....中秋の名月を追いかけて写真を撮ってたのがつい昨日みたいなのに、あと２日でまた満月・・・・ハロウィーンの夜に満々月にならず、狼男は狼になれません。

Halloween Night - My daughter went to her friends house for Halloween Party, but she doesn't do the costume thing anymore....Around my place, there were only small kids wearing all kinds of costumes and coming for candies. It has to be dark, and the parents has to go Trick-or-Treat together with them. So it's a bit annoying. Parents watching, parents talking, teaching kids to say "thank you", and "let's go" "that's enough"....etc etc

Remember "ET"? I like that Halloween scene. No kids can go outside, especially at night, by themselves anymore.

娘はもう高校生になったら、扮装はしないのだって。この辺では大人が仮装パーティーっていうのもマレなようだし、小さい子の行事、になってしまったみたい。それで、夜ともなれば、親がトリックオアトリートについて歩くわけだし、私がキャンディーをあげるのもジッと見られていて、大人同士の挨拶もしなけりゃならず、コレを機会に「ほら、何て言うの、ありがとうでしょ」だの「もういいじゃないの」だの「夜遅くなったから」だの、楽しみが半減しそうじゃない・・・・？

なつかしい「ET」のハロウィーンの場面は、子供たち、勝手に歩き回ってましたよねえ！アメリカのハロウィーンって、ああいうのかと楽しみだったのに。狼男やゴーストならぬ、人殺し、誘拐、強姦魔
の出没で、子供が、特に夜は、外を勝手に歩くなど、論外になってしまいました。

Bird and Iguana in the Rain

Yes, I was in a raincoat and with an umbrella, having a hard time to shoot these in the rain!!

This Iguana, too, was on a tree, waiting for the rain to go away. I still have a difficulty to really get the idea that Iguanas climb trees.....even I saw once how fast one iguana went up the tree, and saw them many times in very high spot on trees. Amazing.

Long Key Nature Center was full of baby-birds in spring, now just a few adult birds on trees. When I arrived there on 10/24/09, it was raining so hard and I immediately saw this Heron on a tree. He was so still, so patient in the rain.
雨の日に、鳥や動物たちがどんな風に過ごしているのかと思うとちょっとかわいそうな気がするけれど、まあ自然の中に生きている彼らにとっては、大した事じゃないのかも知れません。土曜日に近くのロングキー自然保護センターに行った時、着いたら大雨に降られました。春にはヒナたちでいっぱいだった木も、パラパラとサギがとまっているだけでした。この青サギは、しばらく写真を撮ってる間も全然動かずに、枝の影にいるでもなく、大雨に打たれっぱなしでジーーーーーッとしていました。

すぐそばの木に、１メートル以上のサイズのイグアナも雨宿りしていた。頭ではわかっていても、いまだに、イグアナが木に登る、ということが不思議でしょうがない。あんなに大きくて重そうなのに、実際にはすごいスピードで木登りします。大きな木のてっぺんの高～い所に何匹もイグアナを見たことがあります。たまに、ドタッと落ちることもあるとか・・・・私が下を歩いている時には落ちないで！

補足

This is the view I was trying to take at the crime scene last Sunday! この写真を撮るために、殺人現場で１時間半をつぶすハメになったのでした。

The shooting daytrip to see the yellow fields last Sunday, I was taking picture of these tall grasses, and a Dragonfly just came into the view!

I enlarged the size of the Dragonfly a little bit using photoshop..... the bigger the more interesting? No way....!

背の高いこの草が空にフラフラ揺れている写真を撮ろうとしてたら、トンボがビューファインダーに飛び込んできました。フォトショップでちょっとだけサイズを大きくしてあげました。もっと大きくしたら、モスラならぬドラゴジラとか・・・・・
